Much more clear than the majority of explanations I came across so far. Thank you.

"statistics is just kind of made up"

I give a lecture each year to new epidemiology students on random error, mostly MPH and public health concentrators (undergrads). This is a message I've been trying to introduce over the past few years, particularly in the context of the sampling distribution and along with the idea that statistics is as much about philosophy as it is about doing calculations with a bunch of fancy-looking equations. I'm not sure how effective the talk is for newcomers, but I will probably start linking to this piece if I keep giving the talks. Would be curious to know if you ever got the chance to start in on Part 2.
